Teacher Professional Development & In-class resource
Nature Everyday is both a Professional Development programme and In-class Resource, designed to support teachers to help kids connect with, learn in and love nature.
Our programme and resource has been developed from extensive experience and is backed by converging evidence which suggests (what we've always known) that experiences of nature boost academic learning, personal development, and environmental stewardship (Kuo et al. 2019).
The Nature Education Professional Development:
In an engaging one day course, teachers will learn how to use nature education as a tool in their current play-based or discovery learning time, or as a new standalone programme to support curriculum learning and class well-being.The workshop covers nature education purpose and philosophy; linking nature education to the curriculum; and the teacher's role. It also includes experiencing and learning a variety of techniques for leading nature education experiences. Plus, teachers receive the full in-class resource (see more info below), with training on how to use it (it’s easy) so it can be delivered in the classroom straight away.
The Nature Everyday Resource helps kids in the classroom connect with, learn in and love nature. Teachers simply pick a card from the seasonal card set and head outside. Each card has a fun, fascinating and easy to follow nature connection experience that kids will love, and learn from.
Each experience is designed to take just 20 minutes, is linked to key curriculum areas and competencies, and will promote curiosity, creativity, and a sense of calm and connection for kids and teachers alike.
Using the Nature Everyday resource kids learn through discovery, connecting with and experiencing the natural world, every day. They explore, ask and answer questions, engage their senses, are creative and playful. Through experience, they will develop their understanding of the natural world and living things.
The Resource includes: a 50 card set complete with a new nature connection experience for every day of the term; teachers information guide; and on-going support. Plus, an optional in-class session to introduce the programme ignite and inspire kids with the programme. A new seasonal card set is available for each term.
The benefits of time spent connecting with nature every day are enormous. As previously mentioned research-backed evidence strongly suggests experiences in nature boost academic learning, personal development, and environmental stewardship (Kuo et al. 2019). Being in nature helps develop curiosity and creativity, important in nurturing a life-long love of learning, especially in scientific and ecological literacy. Time in nature builds confidence, resilience, and improves mental, emotional, social and physical health (backed by research). Through experience, kids naturally learn about, understand and love nature, this love translates to manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga.
Nature Everyday has been designed especially for the New Zealand curriculum, linking with learning outcomes in Science, English and Health Education. And to Key Competencies, Values and Te Ao Māori. Click here for more info
